Bespoke Outdoor Saunas, Designed and Built in the UK
Every Rigg sauna is made to site. We work from the architecture of
the space — the garden's geometry, the materials already present, the
client's relationship to the outdoors — and design a structure that
belongs there. No kits. No catalogue options. Every build is an original.
What Bespoke Means Here
Bespoke, in this context, means the sauna is designed from scratch for
a specific site and client. We do not modify a standard product. We
start with a brief, develop a design proposal, select materials
appropriate to the context — cedar, larch, charred timber, weathering
steel — and build to those drawings.
The result is a structure with a considered material life. One that
performs thermally, weathers well, and holds its place in the landscape.
The Design Process
Initial consultation → Site assessment → Design proposal → Material
specification → Planning review → Build → Handover
Most residential garden saunas do not require planning permission.
Where they do — listed buildings, conservation areas, commercial sites
— we manage the application as part of the project.
Materials
We work with a defined palette of materials selected for thermal
performance, weathering behaviour, and visual restraint.
Western red cedar — stable, aromatic, performs well in exposed
UK conditions.
Charred timber (shou sugi ban) — dense surface, minimal maintenance,
strong visual presence.
Larch — structural, durable, takes weathering with character.
Weathering steel (Corten) — for clients who want a harder, more
industrial edge. Pairs well with cedar interiors.
All materials are specified for the site. We do not stock standard
finishes.
Where We Work
We are based in East London (E10) and work across London and the UK.
Completed projects include private residences, garden retreats, and
boutique hospitality sites. We work directly with homeowners,
architects, and interior designers.
